CHILDREN

Discover career opportunities for Children’s Nurses at Leicester’s Hospitals.

Our Children’s Hospital offers a wide range of specialities spanning across nine inpatient wards, day case areas and outpatients. We also have a range of speciality services supporting our children and young people and their families throughout childhood.

Our Hospital

Leicester Children’s Hospital is a special place to work. While we’re a large regional centre recognised for clinical excellence, we’re also known for our friendly and inclusive culture. People come to work here to care for our patients and progress their careers, but stay because they become part of our family. We are proud of our staff and our culture, which is built upon our embedded shared values.

We are currently in the planning stages of creating a new Children’s Hospital!

We are committed to creating a single-site Children’s Hospital involving major investment in new and refurbished facilities. We will also be undertaking a significant fundraising campaign so we can create the very best environment for children and their families.

Phase one of the reconfiguration completed in August 2021 when the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre (EMCHC) moved across from Glenfield Hospital to join the rest of the children’s services in beautiful fully refurbished facilities. Also joining the children’s services was the Paediatric ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation) service which moved from Glenfield with EMCHC. EMCHC is home to the largest ECMO centre in the UK and the only mobile ECMO service.

We work hand in hand with this extraordinary team who are renowned for training and research in ECMO and provide specialist and innovative care to some of our sickest children and young people.

We are soon to be entering the second phase which is to create a new age-appropriate and purpose built environment bringing together all paediatric services in a standalone and fully integrated Children’s Hospital at the LRI to serve the population of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and the East Midlands network. There has never been a better time to join our team and be part of defining our children’s services now and for the future!

The children we care for are at the heart of everything we do. We recognise that delivering high quality care requires a culture of lifelong learning and development. Children’s Education Team

It is important that Nurses continue to learn after registration. The Children’s Hospital has a fantastic support system of a dedicated education team who work with both newly qualified nurses and experienced nurses to enable ongoing professional development. We have a range of flexible development and training opportunities to enhance not only clinical skills but also leadership and management skills, coaching and mentoring all delivered by a multi-professional team of experts to help you to progress your career whatever specialty you work in.

Our bespoke preceptorship programme is dedicated to making the transition for newly registered Nurses as smooth as possible. We believe in providing you with the right knowledge and skills for the job. We also have close links with our local Universities and actively offer post graduate learning opportunities to our Nurses.

Nursing Associates (NA)

Our hospital was pivotal in providing the early programmes for our non-registered staff to embark upon Nursing Associate training. We now have a large cohort of Nursing Associates working in our clinical areas delivering care to our children and young people. This has led to a complete pathway to enable non-registered staff to achieve registration as a Band 4 NA or Band 5 RN.

International Nurse Recruitment

As part of our wider campaign to recruit nurses to our hospital we have recruited a number of nurses who have been internationally educated and have successfully completed an OSCE programme.
